Make a Difference & Donate Today While the 2020-21 school year has presented our students with many challenges, we have continued to provide the best possible resources and opportunities for our musicians. Whether it be securing instruments, providing coaching opportunities, acquiring music, or simply purchasing materials for students to use at home, we have worked hard to ensure that all students are able to participate fully in our program. Now, you can make a difference and help us navigate this unique year by making a tax-deductible donation. Donations in all amounts are greatly appreciated and a digital receipt acknowledging your support is provided immediately. Spring Concert (2021)
As a reminder, our Spring Concert will be held on Wednesday, June 2nd at 6:30 PM here on the new math complex plaza. In lieu of selling tickets, those in attendance will be encouraged to simply support our students by making a donation. Truly, the thought that a live concert might be possible seemed very improbable just a few weeks ago. But, our students have worked to prepare a program that includes works by Antonio Vivaldi, Florence Price (a premiere transcription), and Brendan McBrien, as well as selections from Coco and Up. We look forward to closing the year by celebrating together and can't wait to have you join us! Together Again Here are a few shots from our first exclusively live rehearsal in 403 days, including the first sounds in multiple parts (a staggered D Major Scale -- in the comments) since March 2020. Again, thank you to all of the Mira Mesa High School musicians who attended today. We appreciate you sharing your time and are thankful to have you with us. The first live sounds in multiple parts (a staggered scale) since March 2020. In Case You Missed It -- Student Opportunity
Earlier this year, members of our Mira Mesa High School Orchestras had the opportunity to participate in a collaborative project courtesy of the California Orchestra Directors Association - CODA. Musicians from nearly 50 schools participated in the project, working collaboratively with living composers and mentor musicians from the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra. Here is one sample of work stemming from this project -- Scamper, by Niall Taro Ferguson (b. 1994). Participating Mira Mesa High School musicians include Annie (Violin), Talisa (Violin), Sofia (Viola), and Sarah (Cello). Again, kudos to these students for not only their work, but also their willingness to explore new opportunities this year! Hybrid Instruction
Here is hybrid cohort number two (Period 1) on site this morning, playing though a few of our warm ups via Soundtrap. Students online are also playing at home, as they have equal access to the shared screen information, handouts, and affiliated audio tracks.
