Washington D.C. | In Photos
Enjoy the photos below from our recent trip to the east coast (Washington D.C.). Thank you to everyone who helped make this opportunity possible for our musicians! Welcome Back I hope that everyone enjoyed a restful Spring Break! As we return, we will turn our attention to the final round of activities of the year, including: Honor Orchestra at Symphony Hall, a performance trip to Washington D.C., Area Concerts (April 26th) , Solo & Ensemble (April 27th), outside opportunities for Chamber Music through the Hausmann Quartet & Art of Elan, a Disney Performing Arts Weekend (May 26th & 27th), our annual Spring Concert (May 31st), and our wrap-up Orchestra Banquet (date pending). Really, I hope everyone enjoyed their time off! And Away We Go (Upcoming Schedule) Here are how the first few weeks of April unfold: Monday, April 3rd through Sunday, April 9th
Monday, April 10th through Monday April 17th
![]() Symphony Orchestra Auditions (2017-18) As a reminder, the 2017-18 Symphony Orchestra Audition Packet is available online. As has been the case in previous years, we will take time to listen to students during the month of April (after the D.C. trip). In addition to listening to our own Mira Mesa Orchestra musicians, we will take time to visit both Wangenheim Middle School and Challenger Middle School to listen to any incoming 9th graders who wish to audition. Please email Mr. Mulvaney if you have any questions regarding these auditions. ![]() Spring Break Spring break is here! Please do enjoy your week away from school. Take some time to relax and reset, so we can come back fresh on April 3rd. ... unless you have rehearsal (insert evil laugh here)! Here is the rehearsal schedule for those on the spring performance trip:
For everyone else, enjoy your break. When we return we have Area Concerts, Solo & Ensemble, a Disney Trip, and a Spring Orchestra Concert to prepare! Festival Recap On Saturday, March 18th, our Mira Mesa Orchestras and Mira Mesa Bands both hosted, and performed at, our annual music festival (sponsored by the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association). Our thanks to our students, for their performance on the stage and as hosts, has already been expressed, but certainly bears mentioning again! With respect to the performance of our groups, our ensembles were very well received! Here are a few of the notable comments we received from Saturday's panel of adjudicators.
Congratulations to all of our students and ensembles for their high quality performances! Pre-Festival Concerts Thank you to all our families and friends who came out to support our musicians at our annual Festival Concert! This event is important as it helps our students prepare for upcoming festival performance opportunities (like this past weekend). Below is a video of one of our String Orchestra selections from this past Wednesday's Festival Concert, Visions and Miracles (1997/2002) - I. all joy wills eternity, by American composer Christopher Theofanidis... not bad for our first effort on the piece in public performance! Should you have any photos or videos from recent performances that you are willing to share, please email them to Mr. Mulvaney. Thank you to the Baga family for sharing this video! Notable Dates
Here are a few dates to keep in mind for this week:
Thank you to all of our orchestras for your really fine performances today! We received lots of wonderful compliments and a number of great comments. I'm really happy with the performance of all groups and am excited to have the opportunity to further refine our String and Symphony selections for the trip.
Also, thank you for all of your work hosting! I had multiple judges and directors compliment the professional work of or students, which is a testament to you all. We will go over all comments on Monday, and I will be more than happy to pass around the adjudicator sheets so you can see what they had to offer. (When I get a chance, I'll listen to the tapes as well and pass along that information). Again, thank you all for doing such a fine job representing yourselves, your orchestras, and Mira Mesa. Congratulations! ![]()
